New Concept English is the name of a set of books for learning English. These books have proved enduringly popular in China. They contain lessons featuring amusing short stories and associated exercises that are well-designed and quite challenging.

There is one aspect that New Concept English does not explicitly address: pronunciation.

Here therefore are the stories in phonetic text. Phonetic text makes it possible to see exactly what sounds and stress should be used. This is what one student said about using phonetic text (in Chinese) :
